Scotty is one of poker's living legends. He is most remembered for his 1998 main event win against Kevin McBride in which he famously uttered "You call, gonna be all over baby."
He's poker entertainment. There are more non-poker viewers who likes the non-poker action.
This interview may have had something to do with scotty getting plastered. He really got personal in this interview and I think it triggered thoughts he hadn't had in awhile which led to the excessive drinking.

Its boring when everybody just sits there and plays. barely any talking....scotty brings character to the game. and he's a genuine good guy.
